ALL LADIES’ TEAMS ARE HEADING TO INDIA FOR THE 33RD QUEEN SIRIKIT CUP
Delhi Golf Club will be a busy venue next week when the 33rd Asia-Pacific Ladies Invitational Golf Team Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup kicks off. Full participation from 14 member countries are expected to arrive in Delhi on Sunday, March 6th. They represent top amateur ladies from New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, Hongkong China, Sri Lanka and host India. In addition to the 3-team members and captains, top golf administrators and other delegates are flying in to support their teams and attend the annual meeting of the Championship.
The 33rd edition of the Queen Sirikit Cup is the 3rd occasion that Indian Golf Union plays host to this prestigious tournament. Delhi Golf Club was also the tournament venue when the 8th Queen Sirikit Cup was hosted in 1986, while the 20th championship was played at Bombay Presidency Golf Club in 1998. Ten teams were present in the first event and 11 teams came to join in Mumbai. This year proves to be very well attended as all member countries are present.
Korea continues to be the tough team to beat as the defending Champion for the past 4 consecutive years. However, golf is an unpredictable game and no one can under-estimate other players.
The R&A will be represented this year by Martin Yates who will no doubt be witnessing some great games being played by the top ladies in the region whose next destination is toward a professional career.
SUPPORT FROM THE R&A
The Championship has received annual financial support from the R&A to subsidize the teams' accommodation
since the 26th Queen Sirikit Cup, held in China in 2004
