2012 Queen Sirikit Cup, Tanah Merah Country Club, Singapore - April 23-27, 2012

2011 Queen Sirikit Cup, Delhi Golf Club, New Delhi, India

The 33rd edition of Asia-Pacific Ladies Invitational Golf Team Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup is being hosted by Indian Golf Union during March 9-11, 2011, at Delhi Golf Club, India. The first occasion that the championship was played here was in 1986 whereby 10 teams were represented and Australian team won the Cup for the 5th time with the total scores of 441. Twelve years later in 1998, eleven countries returned to India for the 20th anniversary of the Queen Sirikit Cup at Bombay Presidency Golf Club in Mumbai, India, and the Cup was won by Korea for the 7th time with the scores of 433.

It is indeed a great pleasure to note that all 14 member countries are being represented at the 33rd Queen Sirikit Cup this year. In fact, full participation by 14 teams was seen before only twice in the Philippines in 2007 and Japan in 2008. Last year in New Zealand 12 teams took part at Hamilton Golf Club. The home team led the first round by one stroke at 141, followed by Korea and Thailand at 142 and Australia at 145. Korea moved up to second place on the 2nd round and caught up with the home team on the final round to win by 7 strokes 420. New Zealand finished runner-up at 427, Australia in 3rd place at 430, followed by Thailand at 432. Korea has now won the Cup 13 times and many former team members are now in the top LPGA rankings.

This fine record speaks volume for the achievements of the Queen Sirikit Cup Golf Team Championship during the past 3 decades. Now that Golf has been selected as an Olympic sport is another factor that would encourage more younger players to become more competitive and make the game of golf their future career choice.

Recently the R&A has introduced the Women’s World Amateur Golf Rankings to cover amateurs’ championships around the world. Starting this year the results of The Queen Sirikit Cup will be included in such rankings as well.

Thanks to the continued support from The R&A and the member associations, as well as the local sponsors and organizers of this year’s event, the 33rd Queen Sirikit Cup will go down in history as another successful and memorable championship in India.
